Changing Times

February 12, 2012

The world of work experience is going through changing times right now.

The government is considering removing the statutory duty for schools to provide work related learning.   At the same time they want to encourage work experience for students over 16.  Diplomas are on their way out and apprenticeships have come in.  But apprenticeships are also being reviewed.

In the meantime we get increasing requests for specialised work experience for college students, and a growing demand for extended work experience, where the student attends the placement for just one or two days a week over several months.

I’m amazed by the continuing generosity of employers who offer us placements on a regular basis.  We take students ourselves so we are fully aware of what this involves.

At the same time, I will close by saying if any employers are interested in offering extended work experience of any kind – office, retail, garage etc please get in touch – we need you!
